A Busy start to our New Year
In January we conducted a special general meeting of our members to get our new rules of association passed. We needed to change them to be able to qualify for Direct Grant Recipient status. They were accepted and submitted to the Office of Fair trading. The application is still in progress.
We attended the Queensland Conservation retreat held at Mount Glorious, just outside Meanjin( Brisbane). All board members were present and we focused on our work and campaigns for the year ahead. Being a vast State, we are working with all Queenslanders and our Regional Conservation councils to better Protect our Beautiful Queensland
In February we represented Cape York Weeds and Feral Animals Incorporated and Queensland DPI Bio-security a the giant EVOKE AG conference, held in Brisbane What a huge event . It made us Cape York Bama feel very tiny. On the Monday we attended the Queensland Agricultural Breakfast where we we privileged to meet with the QLD DPI minister Anthony Perrett. We also bumped into him at the Evoke Ag conference which he opened.
We got our message across for us BAMA in the north, as he was kind enough to listen He has promised to engage with us when he eventually comes up to visit with us in Cape York.
We also made connection with other groups from Western Australia, South Western Queensland, and New South Wales.
It was a big start to try to get our people’s voices heard and to be included into the rest of Australia. As we have been largely ignored, we are hopeful people will realise we are here, and start to work with us to help protect our country and our Primary industry Producers.
With very limited funding we have started the second year of our Reef Coastal Restoration Pond Apple project for the Federal Government. It has been highly successful in projecting our Dugong grass feeding areas ,dugong nurseries and out Turtle Breeding sites along our coastal areas of Southeast Cape York.
PLEASE have a sticky beak at our gallery of photos of us getting our people’s message out.
